About us

Who we are

We are a non-profit volunteer organization that, through education, advocacy, stewardship and special functions in our community, we create an environment where quality palliative care is given and received.

The Lacombe Palliative Care Society was initiated in 1995 by community members and healthcare personnel. It was officially incorporated in 1996.

Today, our organization consists of over 20 passionate volunteers. Some are from the medical community and others have experienced palliative or hospice care for a loved one and appreciated it so much that they wanted to ensure other individuals and families have the same positive experience that they did.

How we do it

Palliative Care Suites

Lacombe does not have a hospice, but we now have two palliative care suites at the Lacombe Hospital. Each suite has three rooms. A bedroom, a family room, and a kitchenette allow families to be together 24 hours a day.

The family rooms are equipped with everything you would find in a home and the kitchenettes include everything required to prepare simple meals. The bedrooms include recliners and chairs that can be made into a bed so families can spend the night with their loved ones

These rooms are critical for the community, they have a homey feel that allows families to forget the hospital setting as they go through a very difficult time. In addition, they provide you with the piece of mind of knowing there is help just outside the door if it is ever needed.

Homecare

Some people prefer to spend their last days in the comfort of their own homes. Our society supports them, in doing this by donating items to Home Care, who then work directly with the families to support their loved ones. We supply a range of items, including hospital beds, pain pumps, commodes, and sheepskins.
